Last year my book: A Meteorite Killed My Cow came out. It was an attempt to make meteorite science a bit more accessible to a general audience. Obviously one likes to see how things are going, so I did a Google Search on “meteorite books”. No sign of it, not a sniff! So, I thought I would find out from Google AI what was going on. I asked this authoritative source why Google was not picking up my book, while clearly highlighting a more recent publication called simply “The Meteorites”. I prefer my title but obviously AI doesn’t. This is what it said:
Search results favor the title “The Meteorites” over “A Meteorite Killed My Cow” because the latter is a less common, more specific, and possibly fictional title of a different book, while the search engine is trying to find widely recognized, broadly relevant scientific information about the general topic of “meteorite book searches”. It is also possible the book “A Meteorite Killed My Cow” does not exist or is not as well-known as its titular counterpart, the well-known book “The Meteorites”.
There you go! My book is: possibly fictional and may not exist. Thanks AI. You couldn’t make it up! But apparently I have, according to AI. For the record, A Meteorite Killed My Cow, does exist and is a fully referenced scientific book about meteorites.
